Patrick Barlow, writer of the Broadway and West End hit The 39 Steps, has retold Charles Dickens holiday classic, A Christmas Carol. This thrilling adaptation uses only five actors to bring some of Dickens' most beloved characters to life. From Scrooge and Tiny Tim to Bob Cratchit and Mrs. Fezziwig, Barlow's A Christmas Carol uses nothing more than some simple props, fresh physicality, and the power of imagination to convey this timeless story of redemption. Witness Ebenezer Scrooge's transformation from a stingy miser to a man who generously celebrates the spirit of the season all year long, in this highly theatrical adaptation.

What Now? is a comedy show celebrating the darkness, the dysfunction, the mania in all of us. Its about sitting in the shit and still finding laughter and levity.
Comedians Julia DeLois (Reductress, The Air Sex Championships) and Emily Slazer (Edinburgh Improv Festival, San Francisco Sketchfest) are back with their quarterly show that audiences have described as like being at the funnest sleepover ever with all your best friends.
Each show is an ALL NEW, ALL UNHINGED hour of scenes, sketches and interactive segments. This installment, WHAT NOW? Julia and Emily Save Christmas! is a downward spiral into holiday hysteria and the mania that only December can deliver.
What Now? is built around audience connection, so we cant do it without you. But don't worry - no terrifying or hacky audience participation required. You're free to be a part of the show as much or as little as you like - but we promise you'll have more fun if you are.
See you there, future besties. ❤

Projection mapping, also known as video mapping and spatial augmented reality, is a projection technology used to turn objects, often irregularly shaped, into a display surface for video projection. These objects may be complex industrial landscapes, such as buildings.
By using specialized software, a two- or three-dimensional object is spatially mapped on the virtual program, which mimics the real environment it is to be projected on. The software can interact with a projector to fit any desired image onto the surface of that object. Artists and advertisers add extra dimensions, optical illusions, and notions of movement onto previously static objects using this technique. The video is commonly combined with, or triggered by, audio to create an audio-visual narrative.

Alexey (A-lec-sáy) was raised in the Marianao neighborhood of Havana, Cuba where he became a jazz musician in the lineage of great Cuban jazzistas like Oscar Valdés, Bobby Carcassés, Chucho Valdés, Enrique Plá, Ernan Lopez-Nussa, and countless others. He started playing tumbadoras (congas) at the age of 7, inspired by the Afro-Cuban ceremonies celebrated in his grandparents home. In addition to Afro-Cuban traditions, Alexey was immersed in all forms of Cuban popular and traditional music as a child. He soaked up the sounds of the Cuban jazz supergroup Irakere and listened to all kinds of American jazz, funk and R&B. As a teenager he began performing with the renowned Afro-Cuban jazz ensemble Diákara, under the tutelage of the legendary Oscar Valdés, a founding member of Irakere.
In 2008 Alexey moved to New Orleans, furthering his formal music studies in percussion and piano at UNO and in jazz clubs across town. In 2011, Alexey founded his Latin-jazz-funk-fusion quartet Urban Minds. In 2022 he reorganized the concept of Urban Minds into his current band AfroGumbo. He has performed with New Orleans greats like Delfeayo Marsalis, Bill Summers, Davell Crawford, David Torkanowsky, Herlin Riley, Dr. Michael White, Wendell Brunious, Preservation Hall Jazz Band and Jason Marsalis, just to name a few. He has also performed with Cuban masters visiting New Orleans including Orlando Maraca Valle, Horacio El Negro Hernandez, Ernan Lopéz-Nussa, Melvis Santa, Vanito Brown, Renesito Avich, Julito Padrón, Osmany Paredes and others. A career highlight for Alexey was opening for Chucho Valdés in November 2012 at the newly reopened Joy Theater. He has also recorded for the television series Roots (2016) and composed scores for the documentary films: A Leah Chase Story and Color Code (Código Color). Alexey Martís debut album, Travesía, released in 2017, is about his musical and life voyage from his native Havana, Cuba to his current home in New Orleans, Louisiana. His sophomore album, Mundo, released in 2019, is an homage to all of the styles of music from around the world that have influenced his sound. His new single I Know What You Want came out in October 2023. Its the title cut for his new album which will drop in early 2024.

The award-winning Zion Harmonizers have been singing gospel (spreading the Good News) together for more than 60 years. They were trained in the style of a traditional gospel quartet by Alberta French Johnson, leader of the world-renowned all-womens gospel group the Southern Harps and aunt to founding member Benjamin Maxon. Over the years the personnel has changed a little and the Zion Harmonizers have added some hot instrumentalists, but they still rely heavily on the old-time a cappella style, using four-part harmonies to get their message through. This concert is produced by French Quarter Festivals, Inc. in partnership with New Orleans & Company as part of the official Holidays New Orleans Style campaign. It takes place at the historic St. Louis Cathedral in the heart of the French Quarter. FQFIs holiday concerts are free and open to the public, generally running for one hour.

What is the Christmas Eve Bonfires on the levee?
There are many colorfully imaginative traditions dating back to the earliest Cajun settlers of the regions of southern Louisiana to the west and north of New Orleans. One of them is the lighting of the bonfires along the Mississippi River on Christmas Eve.
These bonfires, erected on the river levees by the keepers of this old tradition, are intended to light the way for Papa Noël, the Cajun Santa Claus, on his airborne journey to the area. Or, according to some sources, the bonfires may have also been a way of lighting the path to the nearest Catholic church for Midnight Mass.
The earliest bonfires on the levees were relatively simple in design and assembly, with long logs arranged into a pyramid-shaped cone, some as high as twenty feet. Shorter horizontal logs holding the structure in place gave it a ladder-like appearance. Most of todays bonfires still incorporate that design, but more imaginative creations have since evolved. Some of the most elaborate structures resemble old Cajun cabins, pickup trucks and other indigenous cultural motifs.
When is the Christmas Eve Bonfires on the levee?
At dusk, usually around 7:00 p.m., the structures are doused with flammable liquids and set ablaze, lighting the sky and the surrounding area with towering flames that would be impossible for Papa Noël and his reindeer to miss. The crowds that gather to watch these spectacular conflagrations enjoy a free show and, in some locales, free bowls of hot gumbo are served up by local residents. The blazes are often accompanied by displays of fireworks, set off by the fires themselves.
Where is the Christmas Eve Bonfires on the levee?
These Christmas Eve bonfires are most commonly found in St. James Parish (county), some 30-40 miles upriver from New Orleans. As many as 100 or more bonfires may be erected in the adjoining communities of Gramercy, Lutcher and Paulina, and more may be scattered in other locations in St. James and neighboring parishes.
The fire departments in these locales supervise the activity around the bonfires on the levees, maintaining a safe perimeter for the crowds while keeping vigil to make sure the fires stay under control. Unfavorable weather can force cancellation or postponement of the bonfires, but this has happened only once in recent memory in 1982.
Private vehicular traffic in the areas of heaviest bonfire concentration may be restricted or even banned. Special parking lots are set up within comfortable walking distance of some of those areas. However, traffic leading up to those areas can be heavy, especially within the last few hours before the bonfires are lit. An early arrival is strongly encouraged.
One of the best ways to ensure a good seat for a bonfire on the levee is to book a narrated motor coach excursion with Gray Line Tours. Two options are available: the four-hour Christmas Eve Bonfire Express, which only includes the bonfires, and the 6½-hour Christmas Eve Bonfire Adventure Tour, which includes a tour of San Francisco Plantation and a holiday dinner there.
Where can I find more information about the Christmas Eve Bonfires on the levee?
Both tours originate and terminate at the Gray Line Lighthouse ticket office located at Toulouse Street and the Mississippi River, adjacent to the steamboat Natchez wharf. Reservations are recommended 24 hours in advance. Call (504) 569-1401 or (800) 233-2628 or visit their website, www.graylineneworleans.com/holiday-tours.html for further details.
For those who prefer to stay home and watch a bonfire here in New Orleans, the Algiers Economic Development Foundation sponsors one annually, early in December on the levee in Algiers Point. The site is on the west bank of New Orleans, near a bend in the river directly opposite the French Quarter. It can be viewed from the Moonwalk adjacent to Woldenberg Riverfront Park or from Algiers Point itself. The Canal Street-Algiers Point Ferry carries passengers from downtown New Orleans to the vicinity of the bonfire site.
The AEDF website and Algiers Bonfire website contain details and photos about the organization and event. The tradition takes place in early December and features live music, a second line, and the bonfire lighting.
